Delete the Negativity

Delete the Negativity

I’m back with a weekly wellness tip. If you missed my first weekly wellness post, you may be a bit confused with this whole “weekly wellness” concept. Don’t worry, I’ll link my first article HERE for you to catch up.

Last week was geared more towards physical health and this week we’re going to shift towards mental and emotional health. As you can probably tell from the title, today we’re chatting about deleting the negativity in our life. *Disclaimer: I do not believe I am an expert in this subject, nor do I expect you to believe I am either. I am simply sharing what I try to do and incorporate in my everyday life.*

How to Delete the Negativity in your Life

I don’t believe there is secret formula or solution to make your life full of rainbows and sunshine day in and day out. However, I do believe that our attitude and actions can help tremendously when it comes to positivity. Below I’m sharing some of the ways I try to eliminate negativity in my life to keep me on a positive track.

Spin things into a Positive

Don’t you hate it when you’re venting about something and someone tries to tell you why that situation is good?! Well, I’ve noticed I’ve become that person you probably hate. But my advice to you is become that person. Be the one that turns a negative situation into a positive. It’s okay to continue to let your friends and family vent about a situation because that is healthy for them. Ultimately, your job is to listen and support them. However, at the end of the day, if you begin to be negative with them, neither of you will be happier after that conversation. Same goes if you’re venting. It’s okay to vent and discuss a situation, but try to end it on a positive note.

My challenge to you is to try to spin as many negative situations into a positive. You don’t necessarily need to be happy go lucky all the time and this does not mean that the particular situation will get better. But this will help your outlook and feelings towards whatever is going on. You will feel better having at least one positive thought.

Do at least 3 things for YOU Regularly

Taking time for yourself is SO important. I recommend doing 3 things for YOU regularly. This is a good amount so you’re not alone too much, but it will give you time to focus on things that make you happy. If you do something for yourself, it will put you in a good mood and you’ll be off to having a positive day/week. Here are 3 things I like to do for myself just to give you some ideas:

I’ve loved exercising since my early teenage years. I think originally, I was intrigued by the physical benefits and I liked building muscle in my body. However, as I’ve gotten older I care less about the physical benefits and now do it for the mental benefits. Working out puts me in a good mood, gives me 30+ minutes to focus solely on my exercise, and makes me feel refreshed. I exercise for myself.

I can be a total book worm. Once I start a book, I don’t put it down until it is done. I’m not always “currently” reading a book, so when I’m not reading a book I like to play games on my iPad (total gamer right here). ๐Ÿ˜‰ But these two things completely take my mind off of life. If I’m reading a book, I’m solely focused on the characters and painting a picture in my mind. If I’m playing a game, I’m strategizing how to win. Both clear my mind and give me time to decompress.

This last one may seem silly, but if you love anything beauty related you will understand. I love playing with makeup, doing my hair, painting my nails, etc. I always have and most likely always will. When I first started wearing makeup, it was definitely because I was self conscious. I wanted to cover up pimples, hide my dark circles, and all those fancy things makeup can do. Now, I wear makeup and do my hair to enhance my features and because I love the art of it. I have no problem leaving my house without touching my hair and makeup. In fact, I do it more than you would think. But when I have time, I love getting glam and spending time on ME.

These are just examples of what I do for myself. Chances are, they won’t be the same things you do for yourself. But I challenge you to find 3 things you can do for yourself somewhat regularly. It will have a positive impact on you.

Cut out the Negativity

My last piece of advice to lead a more positive life is real simple….get rid of the things that make it negative! You may be thinking, well duh?! But in all honesty, I believe sometimes people don’t know where to start or how to do this. And to be honest, I’m not an expert. I can’t guarantee my tips will help, but sometimes we need to try different things out to learn what works best.

First things first, you need to identify the source of negativity. There’s a few different ways you can do this. I recommend you pay closer attention to when something puts you down and either write that down or make a mental note of it. If it’s a recurring thing or person that’s putting you down, chances are it’s a main source of negativity. Next, you cut it out.

There will always be negative things thrown our way in life. They will build character and make us stronger. Negativity can be a good thing. But things that consistently put you down on a regular basis can and should be cut out. If it’s your job, start applying for new jobs. Maybe it’s a friend, start spending less time with them and allow yourself to drift. If it is social media, get rid of it. You get the gist.

There are some things you can’t and shouldn’t cut out. Your family, for one. If someone in your family is putting you down, consider having a heart to heart with them. If you are the one putting yourself down don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are people out there who want to help you. You deserve to lead a more positive life full of joy and happiness. If you’ve made it this far, I also challenge you to think of 3 things you love about yourself. Tell them to yourself and if you want to share with everyone else, leave them in the comments below.

I hope this article gives you some ways you can lead a more positive life. You CAN and SHOULD delete the negativity in your life. Start by trying to change your outlook. Your mind has so much power over how you feel – make yourself feel good!!

Being more positive will help YOU be comfortably you.
