There are a number of iPhone apps that I have grown to love. The apps on this list add value to your life in a variety of ways. Some will entertain you while others help you organize your life. Whether you use the app daily, weekly, or monthly, I’m confident these iPhone apps are beneficial.
1. Glimpse
The first on my list is Glimpse. This app compiles a bunch of 1 second clips into a full length video. The first time I used this was Spring Break my senior year of college. My friends and I all made a Glimpse to capture the memories of our trip. We have rewatched those videos countless times and always find ourselves laughing and reminiscing on the trip.
More recently, I have started making a 2020 Glimpse. I have taken clips all throughout 2020 and plan to watch the video at the end of the year. To my surprise, I have not forgotten over the past 10 months and I know this is something I’ll continue each year. It helps you remember the little moments that are still so special.
2. Alarmy
Do you wake up on the first alarm or are you a snoozer?! I am team snoozer and I am REALLY bad. I can snooze my arm for over an hour. I’m trying to break that habit, or at least make it less severe. Alarmy has helped me reduce my snooze time from 1 hour to 15-30 minutes. It’s not perfect, but it’s progress.
The app requires you to do an activity before it shuts off. There’s a variety of activities to select including math problems, scanning a barcode, walking around the room, etc. I personally do 3 math problems every morning and my back up alarm requires me to scan the minced garlic in the fridge. You might laugh, but it has truly helped me with my snoozing habit SO much!!
3. Heads Up
You have probably heard of Heads Up and maybe you have even played. Heads Up is a game you can play with others. Essentially, one player puts the phone on their forehead while everyone describes what the app displays. The player has to guess only with the clues given by the other players.
I have played this so many times during quarantine. With many more nights in and looking for new ways to entertain, this quickly moved to the top of my favorite iPhone apps. If I remember correctly, it costs a few dollars to download the app but it is WELL worth it. The app also records the round and you can usually get a good laugh in rewatching the video.
4. Bleacher Report
Attention all people who don’t follow sports!! If you do not keep up with sports on a regular basis you need this app in your life. The Bleacher Report app is actually designed for sport lovers to see all the game stats, scores, and updates in one place. I enjoy watching sports, but I am no fanatic.
What I love about this app is the ability to favorite the teams you follow and you can receive notifications about those teams. The app usually gives a notification for major events, scores, etc. You can have a high level conversation or understanding about the game without even watching it. Next time that group of people (you know the ones) start talking about sports, you won’t add a ton of value to the conversation but you won’t be clueless.
5. Plan to Eat
I’ve talked about the Plan to Eat app a few times on Instagram. This iPhone app is designed to help you store recipes, meal plan, and grocery shop. You can upload recipes and plan them for different days of the week. Once the meal has been planned, a grocery list is automatically created with the required ingredients. That grocery list can be further edited or modified.
I could talk about my love for this app all day. It takes away the stress of cooking and planning groceries because it does so much of the work for you. You can also SAVE money on groceries because you are less likely to over purchase. If you have food on hand or are going out to dinner, you can simply add a note or ingredient to your meal plan verse a full recipe. The app even lets you plan a meal as leftovers. Your first month is completely free and then it’s only $40 for the year. I use this weekly and I have definitely gotten my money’s worth.
6. Vivino
Last, but certainly not least, Vivino is an app that helps you rate and review wines. I love wine but I do not fully understand the different types of wine and whether it’s bold, sweet, or tannic. The app gives each bottle of wine a rating, a description, a summary, and the taste characteristics. You can even shop for wine directly on the app!
I personally use this to learn about different wines and see the ratings. I scan a bunch of wines to select the highest rated one. If wine is not your forte, they make similar apps for beers and other beverages.
I am sure one of the iPhone apps described above can help add value to your life. They are my top six iPhone apps because I use them daily, weekly, or monthly. Let me know your favorite iPhone app in the comments below!! These apps might even help you be more comfortably you.
XOXO,
MegMat
