Today I’m sharing with you my top 7 favorite things to do in the winter time! These are all activities you can do with your friends, family, or significant other. For the most part, they are all pretty affordable too. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, just keep reading π
1. A Night In
To be honest, this may be one of my favorite things to do in the winter or all year. Personally, I think it’s fun to make a homemade dinner with other people, so I’d start with that. I’d put on some comfortable clothes, pour everyone a glass of wine, and play some games or watch a movie. It’s so simple and some of my favorite memories actually come from nights in. The Game of Things is hands down one of my favorite games to play in a group!
2. Go to a Holiday Market
A more festive thing to do is go to a holiday market. In the Chicagoland area, there are multiple Christkindlmarket locations which is primarily a German inspired event. There are SO many things to see at these markets. Without even purchasing anything, you could easily spend an hour or two walking around to see everything. Not to mention, this winter activity has amazing food!
3. SNOW, SNOW, SNOW
Does it snow around you?? If it does, go enjoy it! Once we get older we stop doing anything in the snow, other than shovel. Last year, my friends and I went sledding at school and it was so fun! Sledding isn’t the only snow related activity to do. You could have a snowball fight, build a snowman, and much more. There’s plenty to do in the snow, so enjoy it rather than dread it. Plus this winter activity is absolutely free.. bonus!
4. Go to a Light Show
One thing I love about the wintertime is all the festive lights. The Morton Arboretum in the Chicagoland area has such an amazing light show! Grab some hot cocoa, buy a ticket, and enjoy the show. If you don’t live near an arboretum with a show, many zoos often have lights or you can drive around to see the home decorations. There is something about festive lights that brings me so much joy!
5. Buy People Presents
In my opinion, getting your holiday shopping done with a friend or significant other is the best way to go. Not only can you bounce ideas off each other, it’s a great chance to chat, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company WHILE being productive. Both of you probably have people to shop for, so why do it separate when you can do it together. 6. Ice Skating
A perfect date night or group outing would be ice skating. During the winter, many places have outdoor rinks which makes it even more festive. If there are not any outdoor rinks near you, an indoor one will still do the trick. You can rent skates, maybe more hot cocoa, and have a good time!
7. Bake Cookies
Nothing screams Christmas time more than baking some Christmas cookies. If you’re friends or significant other are not available, you can do this one on your own! I’ve been baking Christmas cookies the past few years and I enjoy trying new recipes and of course, eating them. When a batch turns out really good, I enjoy watching other people eat my work of art too π
I hope these ideas give you some inspiration this holiday season! Grab a friend, family member, or significant other and make these 7 things bucket list items this season.
XOXO,
MegMat
